Managerial insights for a budding professional

BMS is a three year under-graduate programme imparting education in management. The course was originally known as Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS), when it was first introduced by University of Delhi in 1987. The course allows students to obtain the knowledge and skills needed to assume management positions in a wide range of organizations. The papers offered by BMS course ranges from “Fundamental of Management and Organizational Behaviour” to “Statistics for Business Decisions”, from accounting to economics, from quantitative techniques to all the important branches of management viz., human resource, marketing and financial management. The first two year of graduation provides to the students a sound foundation which in turn helps the students to know and identify their interest for specialization. During the third year of graduation the students have the choice of choosing their specialization from the areas of finance, marketing, human resource and global business environment. The course equips students to understand how organizations work, how they are managed, and sensitize students towards national and international environments. Students centred learning focuses on skills and practices that enable lifelong learning and independent problem-solving. During the course the students are given hands on experience by working on various case studies, projects and presentations. Students are also motivated to go for summer internship to gain the practical insight from industry which makes their course content more meaningful.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Senior secondary school exam from a DU recognised board.
  • Best of 4 subject calculation should include English and Maths at the senior secondary level.
  • The aggregate passing marks should not be less than 60% (General) or 55% (SC, ST, CW, PwD).

Selection procedure

The exam result is calculated out of 400 and finally scaled down to 100. The aggregate of best of four subjects’ marks (including English and Maths) is calculated. The exam result has 65% weightage and 12th result has 35% weightage in the calculation of composite score on the basis of which rank of the student is determined. After this process one has the opportunity to fill in their college preferences which are then allotted rank wise.

These courses are to be compulsorily studied by a student.

Generic Elective Course

It is an elective course offered by different academic disciplines. Under this category total 4 papers will be studied one paper each in first four semesters.

P.S.: A core course offered in a discipline/subject may be treated as an elective by other discipline/subject and vice versa and such electives may also be referred to as Generic Elective.

Discipline Specific Elective Course

Elective courses offered by the main discipline/subject of study of management is referred to as Discipline Specific Elective. A choice from among four DSE – Finance; Marketing; Human Resource Management; Management of Global Business- are offered to students to gain advanced exposure to an elective of their choice. A Student would be free to choose any FOUR courses (TWO courses in semester V and TWO in semester VI, from the courses offered) from ONE group. The programme offers FOUR groups viz. Finance (DSE – I), Marketing (DSE – II) , Human Resource Management (DSE – III) and Management of Global Business (DSE – IV). Students can choose one Research project as extra paper under the guidance of a teacher.

Skill Enhancement Course

2 Skill Enhancement Courses out of a pool of 4 are offered one each in semester III and IV.

Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course

Two AECC papers are offered, one in semester I (English equivalent to MIL) and one in semester II (Environmental Science).
