The Yoga Society of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, Delhi University

What We Do

Founded in 2021, Sadhana, the yoga society of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies aims to instill yoga as the integral part of one’s life. Sadhana organizes online and offline workshops, knowledge sharing sessions with AYUSH savants, events and performances on auspicious occasions. It is committed to promote yoga as a healthy life choice and welcomes all enthusiasts into its holistic embrace.

Key Events in 2021-22

Online yoga classes

In collaboration with Bharatiya Yoga Sansthan, Sadhana conducted free online yoga classes for students and staff. The classes were made open to the family members of students/staff as well. A total of 41 registrations were recorded. The classes were instructed by experienced instructors from Bhartiya Yoga Sansthan. They not only involved rigorous practices but also discussions on the benefits of the asanas thus performed.

 

Republic day performance

On the occasion of Republic Day, 2022, Sadhana organised a student-led performance on Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation). Surya Namaskar is a flow sequence of twelve gracefully linked asanas. Seminar on,”Yoga: Your health your choice”

Under the IQAC initiative of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, a talk on research-based evidence of health benefits associated with yoga was organized on February 4, 2022. The talk was delivered by Prof. Rima Dada from AIIMA, Delhi. The speaker shared research findings of how mind-body interventions could help manage or mitigate various diseases. She also gave insights about how diet and lifestyle program our genes in a semi permanent way. The highly motivating talk inspired the attendees to harness the ancient treasure of yoga and move towards a healthier lifestyle.

Yoga workshop in collaboration with vivante’22

Sadhana collaborated with Kartavya, the student society that works for social causes, for their annual philanthropic fest ‘Vivante’ to conduct a yoga workshop for children from an NGO named Shubhakshika Educational Society. The one-hour workshop was conducted on March 9, 2022 at 10 am in the college premises. The instructor of the workshop, Dr. Sonika Thakral, a faculty in the Department of Computer Science at SSCBS, who is also a certified Yoga instructor, taught subtle joint movements, some basic Yoga Asanas, explained the significance of right breathing and the benefits of adopting Yoga in one’s lifestyle. Thereafter, some fun exercises were held which made children happy to be a part of this event.
