Queer Straight Alliance

Queer Straight Alliance

What We Do

The Queer Straight Alliance of SSCBS is the LGBTQIA+ cell of the college. Our aim is to make the college more inclusive and accepting towards people of diverse genders, sex and sexualities. We believe that in order to bring changes in the society, we should spread awareness and bring about institutional changes. Through speaker sessions, regular meetings and maintaining anonymity where asked, we hope to empower and encourage students belonging to the queer community in our college. We aim to spread awareness about issues specific to the queer community and bring to focus their lived experiences, especially in India. We wish to address the discrimination faced by the queer youth of our country and add to the voice of the community. Through knowledge-oriented social media posts (such as the queer history of India), we can help to reduce the taboo surrounding the community. In addition, organising workshops explaining the different sexual orientations and gender identities as well as the psychological importance of acceptance will be undertaken to educate the entire SSCBS community and hopefully more.
