The Literary Society aims to foster a creative and familial atmosphere to encourage budding writers and help those who have/had an interest in the craft to start writing, reading or any other literature related activity. We hope to make a fun community of like-minded individuals who have passion for all things literature.
We hold sessions on story writing, poetry, non-fiction etc which often diverge into discussions on whether the book was better than the movie but we try our best to not get distracted. Initiatives from any member are welcome since we have a flat society structure where equal respect is afforded to every individual and no one has to shout to make their voice heard as we believe it is essential to have people you can rely on and are comfortable with in the competitive environment of a business college.
We also give a unique opportunity to our members to get their work published in an anthology of short stories with a major publishing house, as indulging in creativity is just as important as showcasing it.
Founded in 2016 from The Editorial Board, this society is relatively new. Though it might seem like a disadvantage, this means that we have a flexible agenda and can add or remove items as we see fit.
We also are one of the few societies on campus which have a room of their own for work (read:
Bibliotheca, the literary fest of SSCBS, is one of the cornerstone events of our institution’s cultural fest, and the Human Library is at the heart of Bibliotheca. Here, the best of the best books come to life in the form of humans and narrate their unique stories to the audience.
Its benefits exude towards both parties as the speakers share an intimate safe space with 4-5 participants in slots of around an hour for each batch. We try to convey stories through this platform which can leave a lasting impression on the listeners and broaden their meaning of what it means to be human. Our last iteration of the Human Library did not want for interesting and varied experiences as we had speakers ranging from a tea-seller who had written over a hundred books to an antiques collector with his own collection.
Bibliotheca also consists of non-competitive English and Hindi/Urdu Poetry Slams and an online writing competition.
We also curate the college magazine and hold a number of sessions on writing fiction and non-fiction. The society also attends various poetry slam sessions throughout the fest season.
The Literary Society is planning trips to different Art Galleries, Museums and other cultural hotspots located in Delhi. A book consisting of short stories written by society members is also due to be edited and published. Moreover, a society trip to the Jaipur Literary Festival ’21 is on the cards is as well.
