Founded in 2008,dhwani, the music society of sscbs is a collective of students driven by a love for music. We are a family, with a blend of talented, innovative, andskilled members.the society has three units, the western music group, the indian classical music group and the band, all working in perfect harmony. Atdhwani, we believe in building bridges of understanding between different cultures. We have not only performed exceeding well in indian classical music and western pop rock, but alsowestern a cappella, we havebeen pioneers in introducing this genre in the delhi music circuit.
In the academic session of 2019-20, dhwani performed at prestigious platforms like the old world collegiate theatre festival at ihc, the delhi university vice chancellor’s lodge, the oneplus du event, and with the delhi chamber choir at lotus temple and iic.
Our acappella crewhas won competitions at various colleges like aiims (third position), jdmc (second position) and iiitd (second position). Alongside this we have had our skilledsoloists perform at various competitions. Shreya gupta accompanied by vikrant kshetri did dhwani proud by coming first at pgdav and arsd, also receiving a special appreciation at msut. Dhwani also performed at iit kanpur and iit bombay, two of the most coveted music-related competitions and has wins at both in its past record.
Dhwani, organised octaves, our annual event as a part of crescendo, the college cultural fest,on 25th and 26th february, 2020. Each year, we have the honour of hosting 700+ participants from across delhi. Dhwani conducts 4 competitions under octaves namely, overture (the western acappella competition), requisition (the western solo competition), raagmala (the indian classical choir competition) and battaglia (the battle of the bands).
The society conducts many knowledge sharing sessions, helping students understand the basics of music theory. These involved several sessions on tonalities, forming harmonies and chords, enunciations, etc.
We hope to make to the next academic session as engaging as this one. We aim at organising octaves at an even larger scale with more events and even higher participation. We expect to incorporate battle of bands in octaves next year, which is an explosive event involving bands from across the delhi university and beyond performing their pieces.
Plato has rightly said ‘music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” Music therapy is a technique in which music is used within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals. Next year we look to confer the therapeutic benefits of music in our self-organized therapy sessions. Next year also, we look forward to participating at national level competitions and represent our college at such highly coveted competitions. And the society will continue holding sessions, apart from regular practices to develop the musical acumen amongst the members of the society.
