Hon’ble guests, worthy colleagues and dear students; it is a matter of proud privilege for me to present the 31st Annual Report of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies for the year 2017-18.

Satyender Jain Ji, Minister PWD, Sh. Mohinder Pal, MLA Rohini, Sh. Devender Singh, Sectretary Higher Education GNCTD, Sh. J.P. Agarwal, Director, Higher Education, GNCTD, Sh. R.R. Pathania, Chairman Governing Body and Sh. Praveen Gupta, Treasurer Governing Body, SSCBS) on this day.
Sh. Arvind Kejriwal is an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur and has worked in the Indian Revenue Service as a Joint Commissioner of the Income Tax Department in New Delhi. In 2006, Sh. Kejriwal was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership recognising his involvement in the grassroots movement Parivartan using right to information legislation in a campaign against corruption. The same year, after resigning from the IRS, he donated his Magsaysay award money as a corpus fund to form the Public Cause Research Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
In 2012, he launched the Aam Aadmi Party, and the party won in the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections in 2013.
On 14 February 2015, he was sworn in as Chief Minister for a second term after his party’s victory in the Delhi Legislative Assemblyelection.
In December 1999, while still in service with the Income Tax Department, Sh. Kejriwal, Sh. Manish Sisodia and others found a movement named Parivartan (which means “change”). Parivartan addressed citizens’ grievances related to Public Distribution System (PDS), public works, social welfare schemes, income tax and electricity. Parivartan used RTI to help people get their work done in government departments without paying a bribe. Along with other social activists like Anna Hazare, Aruna Roy and Shekhar Singh, Kejriwal came to be recognised as an important contributor to the campaign for a national-level Right to Information Act
Later, in 2005, Sh. Kejriwal and Sh. Manish Sisodia launched Kabir, a registered NGO named after the medieval philosopher Kabir. Like Parivartan, Kabir was also focused on RTI and participatory governance.
In December 2006, Sh. Kejriwal established the Public Cause Research Foundation in December 2006, together with Sh. Manish Sisodia and Sh. Abhinandan Sekhri. He donated his Ramon Magsaysay Award prize money as a seed fund.
In 2011, Sh. Kejriwal joined several other activists, including Sh. Anna Hazare and Dr. Kiran Bedi, to form the India Against Corruption (IAC) group. The IAC demanded enactment of the Jan Lokpal Bill, which would result in a strong ombudsman. The campaign evolved into the 2011 Indian anti-corruption movement.
Sh. Kejriwal’s views on corruption and the state of the Indian democracy are expressed in his book Swaraj. He advocates for a decentralization of government and the involvement of the panchayat in local decisions and budgets. He claims that foreign multinational corporations have too much power in the central government and the politicians at the centre are not being held accountable for their actions after their election. He has a number of awards to his credit. He was awarded a grant and fellowship by the Association for India’s Development. Policy Change Agent of the Year, Economic Times Awards, NDTV Indian of the Year, CNN-IBN Indian of the Year to name a few.

Later, he became an active participant in the popular movement of 2011 that sought a Jan Lokpal bill. He was involved in drafting the first version of that proposed legislation. Following the creation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in late 2012, Sisodia became a member of its Political Affairs Committee. He was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in the December 2013 Delhi Assembly election, 2016: list among the 100 most influential Indians 2016 by The Indian Express.

Career Development Centre (CDC), the Placement Cell of the college, serves as an interface between the students and the recruiters, offering a host of services in the areas of placements, internships, live projects, personal counselling and support, assistance in resume building and soft skills development. Lectures and sessions with industry practitioners and regular industry interaction via industry visits, pre-placement talks, workshops and compulsory summer internships for the second year students help bring the academic and the corporate world closer for them. All of these help students to achieve well- rounded growth and a balanced perspective towards academic knowledge and corporate- ready skills.
